We bought our first orphan, bottle fed pet lambs in March 2020. It was great to be so hands on with them. Because they were orphans and had been hand reared, they were very comfortable with us humans. They have such expressive eyes, they can hold our attention for far longer than we should be lazing about ‘fussing’ them!
Anyway, next we thought that as we liked having them so much, what about trying the next stage of Shepherding….So we bought in 1 Mature Romney Ewes, 2 Blue Faced Leicester’s and a Romney Ram -aptly named Rambo.. in October 2020. We had our first Lambs in March 2021. A bumper group of 14 live lambs.
We have a different Ram this year, another Romney, younger and very friendly. We are looking forward to finding out his results very soon, as the sheep are due to be scanned any day now. We didn’t have them scanned last year, but decided that it will be less stressful if we know how many Lambs to expect form each individual Ewe instead of just waiting to see.
