Please write your name and the number of trays/ boxes you are leaving on a post it note and pop it in the money box.
We love to recycle and reuse wherever possible. We know most of you like to do the same.
Egg boxes and Eggs Trays can be recycled in a number of great ways…….
- Add to compost – Tear up and use as a bulk layer in compost like newspaper, They soak up water and maintain moisture in the compost, which is good in hot weather.
- A great Fire lighter – Pour in used cooking oil and lard from your pans, wipe the pan around with kitchen roll and add that into the box too. Pop into the fire and light when ready.
- A Potato Chitter – Sit egg sized potatoes in each egg cell. Store in a cool dry place, check on it regularly and when they eyes develop legs, plant out – three or four times the depth of the potato.
- Better still……Return boxes back to us here at Newgate Farm. – If they are clean and in good condition, we can re-use them or chit potatoes in them. If not, then they will still be recycled as firelighters or put into the compost.

We do receive a lot of returned boxes and trays and as I said we re-use these where possible and this does represent a financial saving for us. We’ve decided to introduce a reward system for returned egg boxes and trays.

When you return your egg boxes and trays to us, as long as they are re-useable, we will reward you with POINTS.
How? Please write your surname and how many boxes or trays you are returning on a post it notes and leave it in the money box– you will find the post it notes provided on the shelf above the Jams
We will keep a list of all returns and tot up your points.
Even better we will put up a weekly update for names and points score.
We are not sure yet what these points will be exchangeable for – we’ll take your comments and suggestions on this, and relay the best ideas and offer them up for a customer vote back to you by Easter.
